⛩️ Hase-dera Temple (Kamakura) (長谷寺)
🎨 Shrine Gallery
📝 Introduction
A temple that represents the beautiful scenery of Kamakura.
📖 Details
As one of Kamakura's scenic spots, Hase-dera (長谷寺), officially named "Kaikōzan Jishōin Hase-dera" (海光山慈照院長谷寺), is also known as "Hase Kannon" (長谷観音) and has long been revered by the local community. Inside the Kannon Hall, the main deity, the "Eleven-headed Kannon statue" (十一面観音菩薩像), stands at approximately 9.18 meters tall, making it one of the largest wooden Buddha statues in Japan.
The temple is adorned with flowers throughout the year, especially the beautiful hydrangeas that bloom in June, making it a popular spot for flower viewing in Kamakura. The autumn foliage is equally stunning, and during the night, one can enjoy the picturesque sight of illuminated maple leaves.
Strolling within the temple grounds, visitors may encounter many adorable Jizō (地蔵菩萨) statues representing good fortune. From the observation deck, not only can you see various halls, but you can also take in the panoramic views of Kamakura's coastline and townscape. Additionally, the breathtaking sight of hydrangeas from the "Scenic Walking Path" (眺望散步路) makes Hase-dera a famous viewpoint in the Kamakura area.
