📝 Introduction

The outdoor village museum featuring the restored Gassho-zukuri village and traditional houses from the Hida region has been fully completed.

📖 Details

Hida no Sato is an outdoor village museum that relocates and restores precious traditional buildings, such as ancient houses scattered throughout Hida. It showcases four nationally important cultural properties, traditional Gassho-zukuri houses that can withstand heavy snowfall, and ancient farmhouses with thatched roofs, preserving the scenery of ancient mountain villages for the future. Inside each house, there are many agricultural tools and household items from that era on display. Visitors can also observe folk crafts such as straw weaving and needlework, and experience traditional Japanese folk games like Takeuma (bamboo stilts) and Kendama (cup-and-ball game). It is a perfect place for families to visit together. Throughout the year, Hida no Sato hosts various traditional activities from the Hida region. Especially in autumn and winter, in addition to the dazzling lighting events, the Gassho village surrounded by autumn leaves or covered in white snow presents a dreamlike scenery that should not be missed.
