About Hieizan Garden Museum

You can enjoy a garden with blooming flowers in all four seasons and masterpieces of Impressionism at the same time.

Details

At the garden art museum on the summit of Mount Hiei, there is a beautiful garden designed around the representative works of French Impressionist painters. Standing at an altitude of 840 meters, it offers a view of Lake Biwa and the city of Otsu, with spectacular scenery visible from the garden. Covering an area of 1.7 hectares, the garden is divided into six themed sections, featuring 1,500 species and 100,000 seasonal flowers. There is the "Fragrance Garden," designed to resemble the hills of Provence in southern France, and the "Water Lily Garden," inspired by Monet's masterpieces, as well as the "Rose Garden," where various types of roses can be seen from mid-June to October, allowing visitors to appreciate the beauty of countless flowers. The garden is adorned with 45 original-sized ceramic panels depicting famous works by Impressionist painters such as Monet, Renoir, Cézanne, and Van Gogh, allowing visitors to enjoy both the garden and the artworks simultaneously. The beautifully landscaped café within the garden offers herbal teas and light meals, along with a souvenir shop selling museum-related merchandise and herbal and fragrance products.
