About Hill of Fairy Tales (Hokkaido)
A beautiful scenic spot that seems to have jumped straight out of a fairy tale world.
Details
From "Nemunbetsu Airport" to Abashiri City, there is a connection via National Route 39. The "Fairy Hill," a straight stretch of 3 kilometers with excellent visibility, has become a well-known spot because director Akira Kurosawa filmed the movie "Dreams" here.
At the end of the sloping farmland, where potatoes, wheat, beans, and beets endlessly extend, seven Japanese larch trees stand proudly, embodying the essence of Hokkaido. Under the blue sky, the hill showcases the tender greens of spring, the pure whites of summer potato flowers, the golden wheat ears of autumn, and the snowy landscapes of winter, offering picturesque scenery akin to a storybook at any time of year. In addition to the seasonal views, the silhouettes of Japanese larch trees illuminated by the evening sun present a captivating sight that can only be seen at specific times.
In front of the hill, there is a wooden deck and benches (except from November to mid-May) for visitors to relax and enjoy the scenery. Not far from the hill, the "Roadside Rest Area Fairy Hill Nemunbetsu" is a great place for dining, buying souvenirs, and resting.
