Honjin is a type of accommodation that developed around post towns during the Edo period, particularly designated for high-ranking individuals such as daimyos, distinct from ordinary inns. At the historical building "Hino-juku Honjin," constructed over 150 years ago, visitors can appreciate the architectural culture of the Edo period and view valuable historical materials that have been passed down to this day in the exhibition hall. Hino is famous as the birthplace and childhood home of Toshizō Hijikata, the vice commander of the Shinsengumi. It is said that the dojo set up within Hino-juku Honjin was the place where Hijikata practiced swordsmanship. This is the area that houses the most Shinsengumi-related materials in all of Japan and is a must-visit spot for fans of the Shinsengumi.
