🗺️ Hitsujiyama Park (羊山公園)

📝 Introduction

A lovely carpet-like corridor woven from shibazakura (moss phlox).

📖 Details

Yamashita Park is located at the foot of Mount Buko, which is known as a symbol of Chichibu, straddling the border between Chichibu city and Yokose town. It is famous for its "Shibazakura no Hill," which is considered a springtime attraction in Chichibu. From early April to early May, the park reaches its peak viewing period for shibazakura (moss phlox). The pink, white, and purple shibazakura cover the hillside, making the entire park look as if it is adorned with a carpet of flowers, truly stunning. The flower-themed park is planted with colorful shibazakura that resemble a beautiful carpet. In the center of the park lies a valley, allowing visitors to enjoy panoramic views from higher points or gaze upward from lower areas. The contrast between the backdrop of Mount Buko and the shibazakura is especially worth seeing, making it a popular spot for taking photos. During the shibazakura blooming season, the "Chichibu Marché" (ちちぶマルシェ) will be held, offering local delicacies and the chance to buy local products. If you are coming from the nearest station, it is recommended to avoid the uphill route from Yokose Station. For the return trip, using the line toward Seibu Chichibu Station is advisable. Seibu Chichibu Station is adjacent to the "Seibu Chichibu Station Front Hot Springs Matsuri no Yu," with souvenir shops and food plazas nearby. After a stroll, you might consider purchasing souvenirs or leisurely enjoying a hot spring. Additionally, the famous "Chichibu Night Festival" is recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. The costumes worn by performers during the festival feature designs inspired by the petals of shibazakura.

⭐ Highlights

The colorful shibazakura and the undulating terrain are perfect for photography. During the shibazakura blooming season, you can also enjoy local delicacies at the "Chichibu Maruše (秩父市集)". In addition to shibazakura, you can admire cherry blossoms, tulips, and pink butterflies at Hitsujiyama Park (羊山公園). It is recommended to head to the location via Yokose Station (橫瀨站) and return using Seibu-Chichibu Station (西武秩父站). There are also onsen (hot springs) nearby that allow for same-day round trips. Since there is no shade, please don't forget to apply sunscreen.
