Niigata Prefecture has the largest number of sake breweries in Japan, and at the "Hon Sake Kan," you can sample sake brewed by all the breweries in the prefecture and purchase them directly. There are three branches in Niigata Prefecture, with the Niigata Station store conveniently located inside JR Niigata Station. The facility is divided into three areas: the Sake Main Hall, the Complex Hall, and the Craftsmanship Hall. In the Sake Main Hall, you can exchange 500 yen for five tokens at the tasting counter, allowing you to freely choose five types of local sake to taste. If you want to try more sake, it's recommended to visit the "Kakudachi (sake bar)" in the Complex Hall, where you can enjoy dishes that pair well with sake. The Complex Hall also sells the famous Bakudan Onigiri (explosion rice balls), which are about 9 cm in diameter and equivalent to two bowls of rice. These rice balls are made with Koshihikari rice and filled with hearty ingredients, making them very filling. In the Craftsmanship Hall, various selected products are available for sale. The Hon Sake Kan is located inside the station and is open for tasting sake at any time during business hours. In addition to sake, you can also purchase delicious rice, miso, snacks, and other ingredients and souvenirs from Niigata, making it a recommended stop even for those who do not drink alcohol.

You can sample representative sake from all the breweries in Niigata Prefecture. It is conveniently located near Niigata Station, making it an excellent location. You can easily enjoy Japanese sake at reasonable prices. Various snacks and local specialties are available for sale. On the first floor, there is a restaurant called "Hon Sake-kan Uonuma Kamakura" where you can taste local cuisine and sake.
