About Hoppō Wildflower Garden
The only forest botanical garden in Japan where you can observe a variety of wild plants.
Details
Located in Arashiyama Park, Asahikawa City, Hokkaido, the "Hokubou Wildflower Garden" is situated at the confluence of the Ishikari River and the Nagauru River, covering an area of 12.25 hectares. It is primarily a broadleaf forest that is home to approximately 650 species of plants, making it one of the few habitats for northern (primitive) wild plants in Japan. It is also quite rare for a botanical garden to be located in the suburban area of a city.
The garden features a 5.2-kilometer walking path, divided into routes of 30 minutes, 1 hour, and 2 hours. Along the walking routes, there are information boards and rest areas, allowing even novice hikers to enjoy a leisurely stroll in the garden.
Throughout the year, the Hokubou Wildflower Garden welcomes visitors with a variety of blooming flowers, offering different scenery no matter when you visit. Among them, the purple Katakuri flowers that bloom abundantly in early spring are particularly popular, attracting many flower enthusiasts who come specifically to see them. In addition to the plants, many adorable small animals such as wild birds and Ezo squirrels also inhabit the area, and if you're lucky, you might catch a glimpse of them.
