🗺️ Ishigaki Yaeyama Folk Village石垣やいま村

Ishigaki Yaeyama Folk Village is located on a hill that overlooks the famous "Nagura Bay." It features ancient houses that are over a hundred years old, relocated to preserve the natural scenery and recreate the beautiful landscape of ancient Yaeyama. This is the southernmost and westernmost theme park in Japan, where visitors can learn about the culture and nature of Ishigaki Island. There is a unique boardwalk in one of Japan's rare mangrove forests that keeps your shoes clean while allowing you to leisurely enjoy the surroundings. Visitors can also interact with the 60 friendly squirrel monkeys raised in the park, offering various activities to understand the unique nature and wildlife of Yaeyama. The village is home to the national natural monument, the Crested Serpent Eagle, and you can also see water buffalo used for farming and transporting goods in Yaeyama. Don’t miss the folk shows featuring songs and dances performed alongside sanshin music in the ancient houses. Additionally, there are hands-on experiences such as painting Shisa (Okinawan lion-dogs) with unglazed pottery or creating star sand art, as well as trying on colorful Ryukyu costumes. The attached DRIVE-IN features a restaurant where you can taste local delicacies like Yaeyama soba and Okinawan rice dishes, along with a wide variety of souvenirs.
