📝 Introduction
The story of the Mitsubishi Group begins here.
📖 Details
Iwasaki Yataro, who transitioned from a samurai to an entrepreneur and founded the Mitsubishi Group, was born on December 11, 1835, in Inokuchi Village, Aki District, Tosa Province, as the son of a low-ranking ronin. The house where he was born has been restored and preserved, and is open for public viewing.
Yataro's great-grandfather, Yajiroemon, sold his status as a country gentleman and built the house in 1795. On the "kibana" (earthen storehouse) at the back west side of the house, the "Mitsubishi" family crest, also known as "Three Diamond," can be found, which is the prototype of the current Mitsubishi logo.
Additionally, in the courtyard surrounded by bamboo fences, a stone arrangement was discovered. It is said that this was created by young Yataro, filled with ambition, as he imitated the shape of the Japanese archipelago.
The statue of Iwasaki Yataro standing on the east side of the house is also very eye-catching. It was built in 1985 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Iwasaki Yataro's birth and was moved to its current location in March 2015. The statue is 3.3 meters tall, with a pedestal height of 1.64 meters.
