Known as the backyard of the major city Sapporo, Jozankei Onsen is located in the Minami Ward of Sapporo City, Hokkaido, and has a long history of over 150 years since its opening. It has been designated as part of Shikotsu-Toya National Park, with the hot spring town extending along the banks formed by the Shirai River and Toyohira River.
The water quality is classified as sodium chloride spring. Jozankei Onsen has 56 sources, concentrated near the Tsukimi Bridge and Takayama Bridge along the Toyohira River that flows through the hot spring town. The hot spring water naturally gushes from cracks in the riverbank and riverbed rocks, with a flow rate of 8,600 liters per minute and a relatively high temperature ranging from 60 to 80 degrees Celsius.
Starting from Jozan Source Park, there are free foot baths and hand baths available in the hot spring town. Additionally, statues of the mythical kappa can be seen throughout the hot spring town, and there is a statue of the Kappa King in Futami Park by the Toyohira River.
The nearby Futami Suspension Bridge is one of the famous spots to enjoy forest bathing and view the autumn leaves in Jozankei.
Highlights
There are up to 56 hot spring sources, each gushing out more than 50 liters per hour. The naturally flowing hot springs are relatively high in temperature. The hot spring town also offers free foot baths and hand baths. You can enjoy the natural beauty of the valley.

From Sapporo Subway Namboku Line, Tozai Line, or JR Line "Sapporo", take the JOTETSU bus to "Jozankei Yumoto" and get off to arrive.
