Kanda Jimbocho Bookstore Street, located in Chiyoda Ward, Kanda Jimbocho, is the largest used bookstore district in the world. It is said that there are over 170 used bookstores selling second-hand books in this area, where you can find books from any field. In addition to Japanese publications, many bookstores also sell used books from around the world, and you can even find rare and historically valuable editions. Most of the shops on the street are used bookstores, but there are also stores selling new books and miscellaneous goods. There are several quaint coffee shops along the street where you can leisurely enjoy a cup of coffee while reading. Every autumn, the "Kanda Old Book Festival" is held. During this event, the entire street is filled with various book stalls, and various book-related activities take place, attracting a large crowd each year who come to treasure hunt for books.
Highlights
A bookstore street centered around the Jimbocho intersection directly above Jimbocho subway station. Particularly, there are several secondhand bookstores on the street south of Yasukuni Avenue. It is the oldest bookstore street in the world. Every autumn, the Kanda Old Book Festival (神田古本まつり) is held. There are several cafes on the street where you can leisurely read while enjoying coffee.
