About Kashikojima Spanish Cruise
After taking a luxurious cruise around Ago Bay, we will proceed to visit the pearl exhibition factory.
Details
The Kinjima Spanish sightseeing boat departs from Kinjima and circles around Ago Bay for about 35 minutes. After visiting the pearl exhibition factory, it returns to Kinjima Port, making the entire tour approximately 50 minutes long.
The sightseeing boat "Yasubellansa," designed based on the ships used during the Spanish Age of Exploration, is a three-masted sailing vessel that also features a viewing deck. The second floor of the boat offers drinks and includes a special room called "Isabella" (which requires an additional fee for use, separate from the cruise ticket), allowing travelers to enjoy a more elegant cruising experience.
At the pearl exhibition factory, visitors can observe the on-site nucleation process for cultured pearls. The nucleation process involves inserting a nucleus and mantle tissue into the body of a mature Akoya oyster, which will form a layer of pearl around the nucleus, eventually becoming a pearl. This method was invented about a hundred years ago by Mikimoto Kōkichi and others, establishing the technique for cultivating true round pearls from Akoya oysters, which is now used worldwide for pearl farming.
The actual nucleation process takes place from May to June, while the pearl exhibition factory is open for visits year-round.
Highlights
You can board a sightseeing boat modeled after the ships from the Age of Exploration. From the deck, enjoy the view of Ago Bay and the coastline of Cape Bay. The tour includes a visit to a pearl exhibition factory.
