Kawakami-an is a stylish soba noodle restaurant located about a 15-minute walk from Karuizawa Station, near the fashionable old Karuizawa Rotary, which is lined with trendy shops and cafes. Its prime location near the entrance of the famous Old Karuizawa Ginza shopping street makes it perfect for sightseeing and leisure. In addition to the main store, there are branches in Karuizawa's Yuyuki Street, as well as in Tokyo's Azabu and Aoyama, making it a very popular restaurant. The interior features jazz music and a spacious atmosphere reminiscent of an elegant restaurant bar, allowing guests to enjoy a relaxing dining experience. There is also a green terrace seating area where pets are welcome. The soba noodles are made from homemade buckwheat flour ground with a stone mill, resulting in a smooth texture. The rich aroma of the coarsely ground buckwheat pairs perfectly with the restaurant's signature tempura, making it exceptionally delicious. Among the many dishes, the "Tempura Steamer" is highly recommended. It features two large tempura shrimp with heads and tails, accompanied by seasonal fried vegetables, making it a best-selling item. You can also add a steamer for an additional 500 yen. There are various a la carte dishes available, including homemade soba miso and a selection of three types of tofu. Additionally, a wide range of Shinshu sake and wines are available. During the day, enjoy the delicious Tempura Steamer and Duck Steamer, while at night, we recommend sampling local sake, wine, and a la carte dishes, finishing with the restaurant's signature soba noodles for a perfect conclusion.
