📖 Details

The Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine is a shrine with a history of over 1900 years, and it is part of the UNESCO World Heritage site "Mount Fuji." According to legend, it was established by the Japanese warrior Yamato Takeru as a place for worshiping Mount Fuji, and it serves as the starting point for the Yoshida Trail up the mountain. On both sides of the approach path stand cedar trees and stone lanterns, creating a solemn and dignified atmosphere. Walking along the path leads to the largest wooden torii gate in Japan, the "Fuji Otorii." Next to the worship hall stands the sacred tree "Fuji Taro Sugi," which is over 1000 years old, along with the "Fuji Couple Hinoki." The awe-inspiring ancient trees command deep respect. Every year on July 1st, the "Mount Fuji Climbing Festival" is held to announce the arrival of the climbing season and to pray for the safety of climbers. The "Fire Festival" takes place on August 26th and 27th, symbolizing the end of the climbing season for Mount Fuji. In autumn, visitors can enjoy the beautiful fall foliage here. Particularly in November, the vibrant colors of the worship hall surrounded by maple leaves create a captivating scene.
