In 2012, the "Kitakyushu Manga Museum" was established in Kitakyushu City, the birthplace of famous manga artists such as Leiji Matsumoto, Masao Watase, and Tsukasa Hojo. This facility showcases the charm of manga with the theme of "seeing, reading, and drawing."
Among the many sections in the museum, the most popular is the "Reading Area," which houses approximately 70,000 manga volumes. Visitors can freely browse here, and manga experts are available to answer any manga-related questions. Additionally, there are exhibitions and talk shows featuring popular manga artists, as well as regularly held manga lectures and themed book clubs that should not be missed.
The manga museum is located within the conceptual building "Aru Aru City," near JR Kokura Station. Other floors include shops for anime merchandise and figurines, as well as an event hall, making it a focal point for the dissemination of pop culture in Kitakyushu, attracting attention both domestically and internationally.
