About Kobe Port Lighthouse
The deep red lighthouse standing gracefully at the harbor is a landmark of Kobe.
Details
Standing at Kobe Port, the Kobe Port Lighthouse features a hyperbolic structure resembling an elongated drum, earning it the nickname "Iron Tower Beauty" due to its elegant shape and deep red appearance. Since its inauguration in Showa 48 (1963), it has become a symbol of Kobe, beloved by the citizens. After undergoing two and a half years of seismic reinforcement and renovation, it will reopen in April 2024.
One of the most noteworthy highlights of the renovation is the newly accessible rooftop area. Visitors can take an elevator to the 5th-floor observation deck and then climb stairs to the open-air sky deck surrounded by glass, offering a 360-degree view of Kobe's nightscape and harbor views. The dazzling sea and blue sky during the day leave a lasting impression, while the sparkling night scenery is beautifully enchanting, allowing guests to enjoy stunning views that change with time.
The observation deck also features other appealing attractions. There is a museum showcasing LED neon art installations and a revolving café & bar that takes about 30 minutes to complete a full rotation. On the lower floors, which do not require an admission ticket, there is a café restaurant where visitors can enjoy meals or drinks on the newly established terrace while taking in the harbor views, as well as a shop selling Kobe specialties.
