Details

Konpira Shrine, located on Mount Zōtō, is the head shrine of Konpira Shrine. It attracts up to 4 million visitors each year. The main deity worshipped here is Ōmononushi, who has been a well-known guardian of maritime transportation since before the medieval period, as well as a god who blesses abundant harvests and the prosperity of cultural industries. It is said that the main shrine was built before the Taika Reforms. A long stone staircase connects the entrance town to the main shrine, with as many as 785 steps to climb, so please ascend step by step with your heartfelt wishes. Along the way, you can enjoy art spots and cafes & restaurants like Kamitsubaki, where you can appreciate the cultural treasures and artworks collected by Konpira Shrine. Taking a short break here is also quite nice. The "Happy Yellow Omamori" is particularly popular. After your visit, you can walk along the approach in the entrance town to explore food and shopping. The area is filled with a mix of old and new shops, offering beloved items like moxa and croquettes, as well as various photogenic foods such as ice cream made with Sanuki ingredients. From classic souvenirs to trendy products, there is something for everyone.

With a heart full of wishes, let's climb the 785 stone steps to the main shrine. It is recommended to wear comfortable clothing such as sneakers for easy walking, and walking sticks are available for rent. You can pray for abundant harvests, industrial revival, and safe navigation. After your visit, it is suggested to stroll through the shopping street of Omote-machi, which offers many souvenirs and delicious walking food.
