About Kōsatsuba (Notice Board)
Ancient bulletin boards set up at transportation hubs.
Details
The Takusatsu-ba was used in the past as a "bulletin board" for announcing laws and issuing notices, located at a strategic intersection of the Kamakura Highway and the Koshu Highway (now the old Koshu Highway). The bulletin board measures 4.6 meters wide and 5 meters high. Next to the Takusatsu-ba is the "Otabisho," which is said to be the place where the main deity of the Ōkunitama Shrine, Ōkunitama no Ōkami, descended. Here, the traditional deity worship ceremony "Kurayami Matsuri" is held every year on May 5th. The ritual, where eight portable shrines parade simultaneously, continues until dawn.
Highlights
This is a bulletin board that was set up in the past at a traffic hub. This area used to be the central part of the Fuchu post station. Next to the high notice board, the "Otabisho" is a sacred place for the "Kurayami Matsuri" held on May 5th each year, where the portable shrine procession continues until dawn.
