About Kumoba Pond
The beautiful mirror-like water reflecting the fresh greens of summer and the red leaves of autumn is not to be missed.
Details
The tranquil lake located in "Karuizawa," one of Japan's premier highland resort destinations, is a classic spot on sightseeing itineraries. Originally an area for foreign villas, it became known as "Swan Lake" in winter when swans would come to visit.
The water in the lake comes from the pure source of御膳水 (Gozensui), making it exceptionally clear; the reflections of larch and maple trees on the water's surface are breathtakingly beautiful. In addition to the mandarin ducks standing by the lakeside, many wild birds inhabit the area, allowing visitors to spend a peaceful time amidst their gentle chirping.
From spring to summer, the unique fresh greens of the highlands can be enjoyed, while autumn brings colorful leaves and winter offers picturesque snowy scenes, showcasing the beauty of the four distinct seasons. There is a walking trail about 1 kilometer long surrounding the lake, perfect for a leisurely stroll while taking in the seasonal scenery. It is recommended to sit on a bench near the lake and relax for a moment.
Highlights
In the past, swans flew in, which is why it is called "Swan Lake." The clear water surface is as beautiful as a mirror. The reflections of the new green and autumn leaves on the water are not to be missed. It is recommended to take a leisurely walk along the trails around the lake.
