The Kyocera Museum of Art opened as Japan's second large-scale public art museum, named the "Dairei Memorial Kyoto Art Museum." Later, the name was changed to "Kyoto City Art Museum." After renovations in the spring of 2020, it reopened and was renamed the "Kyoto City Kyocera Museum of Art." The museum's collection primarily focuses on works from the modern Kyoto art scene, encompassing over 3,800 pieces of Japanese paintings, Western paintings, sculptures, prints, crafts, and calligraphy. The "Higashiyama Cube" within the museum features the latest facilities to showcase the charm of modern art; the "Big Triangle" mainly promotes emerging artists with impressive and sleek decor; there are also dedicated spaces for displaying collections of works, and various exhibitions are held across these diverse exhibition spaces, broadly showcasing artworks from different eras and fields. The architecture of the museum itself is also filled with artistic sensibility. Its structure fully utilizes the historical appearance of a blend of Japanese and Western styles. The entrance, named "Glass Ribbon," is located underground, vividly expressing the combination of tradition and innovation that Kyoto embodies; the "Central Hall" features a spacious and bright pure white area; the "Hall of Light" and "Sky Courtyard" are multifunctional spaces transformed from the museum's courtyard.
