📜 Restaurant Details
Maiko Meshi is a tempura restaurant located in Gion, with the concept of "even the delicate red lips of a maiko can enjoy" offering bite-sized exquisite tempura. The Arashiyama branch is situated next to the Togetsukyo Bridge, spanning the Katsura River, and features a full glass wall that provides a stunning view of the picturesque Arashiyama scenery, making it an excellent location.
At the Arashiyama branch, in addition to the basic 8 types of vegetable tempura, there is a "16-color bite-sized tempura set" where you can choose 8 pieces from a selection of 18 types of fried skewers, including seafood and seasonal vegetables. The tempura arranged neatly on the plate is beautifully presented, stimulating the appetite. The skewers feature unique Kyoto ingredients such as yuba (tofu skin), Kyoto Akadachi chicken, and Manjuji peppers, as well as seasonal ingredients like Matsuba crab, conger eel, and cauliflower, offering a rich variety. In addition to a slightly sweet special tempura dipping sauce, three types of condiments are provided: matcha salt, salt from Kotobikihama, and yuzu shichimi salt.
The set meal includes a special dish exclusive to Arashiyama, the Dobin Mushi, which allows you to savor the sweetness of the broth paired with Kyoto Akadachi chicken meatballs, providing a relaxing taste. Additionally, it is recommended to place the tempura on white rice and drizzle it with broth to create a delicious tempura ochazuke. For dessert, a refreshing plum wine jelly infused with the aromas of plum and loquat is served. The restaurant operates on a reservation-only basis, with 6 time slots available, each with a dining duration of 90 minutes.
