About Meijiza
A historic theater that hosts a variety of performances, including Kabuki and Enka.
Details
Opened in 1873, Meijiza is the oldest theater in Tokyo. Along with "Kabukiza," "Shinbashi Enbujō," and "Teikoku Gekijō," Meijiza is renowned as one of Tokyo's three major theaters. Meijiza has been burned down multiple times due to disasters, and the current theater is located on the lower floors of a high-rise building that was rebuilt in 1993. Today, it primarily serves as a comprehensive theater for enjoying various performances such as Kabuki, Enka, and modern opera. The theater features restaurants and cafes, allowing patrons to dine and relax while enjoying the performances. Additionally, bento boxes are sold, and enjoying a bento in the audience before the show or during intermission is one of the great pleasures of watching a performance at Meijiza.
