About Miyako Island
Dive into the ocean, known as "the most beautiful in Japan," and enjoy the beauty of Okinawa!
Details
The Miyako Islands are located in the middle of the Ryukyu Arc, which connects Ishigaki Island and Iriomote Island in a bow-shaped line from Okinawa's main island. They consist of eight small islands, including Ikema Island and Ogasawara Island, with Miyako Island being the main island. The biggest charm of Miyako Island is its uniquely beautiful sea, which features high transparency with emerald green and cobalt blue waters. It is also a popular destination for diving, snorkeling, and other water sports.
Driving along the coastline while enjoying the azure sea views and getting up close to the fish in the shallow waters allows one to fully immerse in the tropical atmosphere. It’s also delightful to leisurely enjoy some island time in stylish cafes that exude a resort vibe. The island has several izakayas where visitors can savor authentic Okinawan cuisine, providing a fulfilling Okinawan night experience.
A flight from Tokyo to Miyako Island takes about three hours. There are direct flights from Haneda Airport and Narita Airport, making it quite convenient as there’s no need for transfers. It takes only about an hour to reach Miyako Island from Naha Airport. Miyako Island is connected to nearby small islands by bridges, and there are several accessible islands by car, making it very convenient to rent a car and hop between islands.
