About Momotaro Museum of Machinery
Anyone can find enjoyment in these institutions, especially in the museum dedicated to the legend of 桃太郎 (Momotaro).
Details
The well-known Japanese fairy tale "Momotaro" is said to have originated in Okayama Prefecture. The Momotaro Museum not only showcases a wealth of historical collections such as ukiyo-e, Japanese books, picture books, and toys, but also focuses on the long-standing legend of Momotaro. Additionally, there is a screening room where visitors can enjoy classic Momotaro comics.
Inside the museum, there are many interactive facilities, such as the thrilling "Oni Island Cave Adventure," which features an array of demons, and the "Mechanical Puppet Play Area," which presents a fantastical world through visual illusions, allowing visitors to understand the Momotaro legend from different perspectives.
In ancient Kibi Province, there was a myth about Kibi no Takemiko defeating the demon Onra, and this area is also known for its specialty "Kibi Dango," which contributed to the birth of the "Momotaro legend." On the other hand, Megijima Island in Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture, located in the Seto Inland Sea, still retains the legend of Oni Island. Coupled with various local historical and cultural elements, some speculate that this also contributed to the formation of the Momotaro legend.
