🗺️ Mount Hakkoda八甲田山

Mount Hakkoda is a collective term for several mountains in the southern part of Aomori City and is one of Japan's 100 famous mountains. The main peak, Mount Ōdake, stands at an elevation of 1,585 meters, along with Mount Takada, Mount Ido, Mount Akakura, and ten other mountains known as the Northern Hakkoda. The six peaks, including Mount Kushimine, are referred to as the Southern Hakkoda. The area around Mount Tamoyake, where the Hakkoda Ropeway's terminal station "Sancho Park Station" is located, is rich in alpine plants and features many ponds and marshes, allowing visitors to enjoy the beautiful scenery of nature. It is especially recommended to explore the well-maintained hiking trails that allow for close encounters with the majestic nature. There are several routes available, approximately 30 minutes, 60 minutes, and 2 hours and 30 minutes long, allowing you to choose based on your physical fitness. If you want to experience authentic mountain climbing, it is recommended to challenge the "Ōdake Climbing Route." In summer, you can enjoy hiking and climbing, in autumn, you can appreciate the fall foliage, and from winter to spring, you can engage in mountain skiing, enjoying recreational activities throughout the year. The ice formations in winter are also quite worth seeing. Belonging to the Nasu volcanic belt, there are many hot springs nearby. Especially since the Edo period, it has been well-known as a place for "yūji" (hot spring therapy), with "Sukayu Onsen," designated as the first "National Health Spa," being particularly famous. After hiking or skiing, visitors can relax and heal their tired bodies in the hot springs.

Mount Hakkoda is not a single peak, but a collective term for about 17 volcanoes. It offers the enjoyment of easy hiking as well as authentic mountain climbing. In winter, activities such as tree ice and mountain skiing are available. There are also numerous hot spring facilities nearby.
