About Musashi Mausoleum

One of the top energy spots in Tokyo, exuding a solemn atmosphere.

Details

Located in the lush greenery of Hachioji City, Tokyo, the Imperial Cemetery houses the tombs of Emperor Taisho and his wife Empress Teimei, as well as Emperor Showa and his wife Empress Kojun, totaling four mausoleums. The "Tama no Miya," where the 123rd Emperor Taisho rests, is a round mound with three layers above and three layers below. It is surrounded by bonsai and trees that Emperor Taisho cherished during his lifetime. Behind the eastern side of Tama no Miya lies the "Musashino no Miya," the mausoleum of Emperor Showa, who reigned for 60 years and oversaw Japan's recovery after World War II. This mound, standing 8.75 meters tall, has a gentler slope than Tama no Miya, creating a more approachable atmosphere. Flanking the 400-meter-long approach from the main gate to the mausoleums are Kitayama cedars brought from Kyoto, enhancing the solemn ambiance. The expansive grounds are enveloped in a tranquil aura, making it one of Tokyo's premier energy spots. The Tama no Miya cemetery office provides a seal equivalent to the shrine's goshuin.
