Narita International Airport is an international airport used by approximately 44 million passengers annually (based on 2019 figures) and serves as the aerial gateway to the Tokyo metropolitan area. Since its opening in 1978, the airport has seen a total of about 6 million takeoffs and landings for both domestic and international flights. The airport code "NRT" is not only well-known in Asia but has also gained global recognition. The airport features Terminals 1 to 3 and a cargo terminal, and in addition to the currently operating Runways A and B, a third runway is set to be constructed.
