The permanent exhibition rooms are located on the first floor and the basement level. The first floor displays a wealth of materials on "the history and culture of the indigenous Ainu," including Ainu houses, beautifully embroidered Ainu clothing, as well as garments and ornaments from other northern ethnic groups, all of which are worth seeing. The basement level is themed "Plants, Animals, and People Surviving in Harsh Winters," featuring ancient pottery and stone tools, the relationship between northern nature and humanity, as well as materials related to the nature and history of the Asahikawa area.
