A favorite place for art enthusiasts, it often sparks discussions with its fresh perspectives and unique themed exhibitions.
Details
The museum, which opened on October 1, 1985, focuses on modern and contemporary Japanese art. In recent years, it has also expanded to include various categories such as ukiyo-e, Western painting, and picture books, hosting exhibitions with fresh perspectives and approaches that are well-loved by art enthusiasts.
The museum's main activities, in addition to the preservation, management, research, and display of its collection, include various educational outreach programs. These programs feature gallery talks led by artists and writers, hall concerts, and lectures on techniques and knowledge related to learning art. There are also creative studios and community galleries available for rent as spaces for creation and presentation.
Inside the museum, there are three exhibition halls, and on the first floor, there is the Kunii Library. The library displays catalogs of past exhibitions held at the museum and a collection of art-related books, housing a wealth of information on art.
Adjacent to the museum is the green space "Nerima Ward Art Forest Green Space," which features sculptures of 32 fantastical animals in 20 different varieties. Many of the works are vibrantly colored, making it a great spot for photography, and visitors are welcome to touch the sculptures.
