About Niigata City Aquarium Marinepia Nihonkai
Like diving in the sea, it is the largest large aquarium along the coast of the Sea of Japan.
Details
Located in Niigata Prefecture, Marinepia Aquarium is the largest aquarium along the Sea of Japan coast. The dolphin stadium hosts four energetic dolphin shows daily (five shows on Sundays and public holidays). These performances showcase jumps and other movements in sync with the trainers, providing explanations about the dolphins' anatomy and ecology.
A must-see attraction is the "Sea of Japan Large Display Tank." In the underwater tunnel, visitors can immerse themselves in the atmosphere of walking on the ocean floor and observe the fish species that inhabit the Sea of Japan. Additionally, there is an area representing the Shinano River, where visitors can watch organisms living in different environments from the downstream to the upstream sections.
It's worth mentioning that the Akashiya (Black throat perch) is a representative fish species of the Sea of Japan, and this aquarium is the first in the world to successfully breed Akashiya artificially. Furthermore, the "Black throat perch hot dog" is a hidden culinary gem at the outdoor shop.
