🎨 Shrine Gallery
📝 Introduction
A temple famous for having the largest wooden structure in Nikko, the "Sanbutsu-do."
📖 Details
Nikkō-san Rinnō-ji is a collective term for the Buddhist halls, pagodas, and temples scattered throughout the Nikkō Mountains. It is said that Rinnō-ji originated from the Shobō-ji, founded by the founder of Nikkō, Shōdō Shōnin. The Sanbutsudō is the largest wooden structure in the Nikkō Mountains, enshrining three statues: Kannon with a Thousand Arms, Amitābha Tathāgata, and Shō-Kannon.
Inside the temple, there is a "Kongō-zakura" cherry tree, estimated to be around 500 years old. In spring, the blooming of the Kongō-zakura can be admired. Every autumn, beautiful maple leaves can be viewed in the Japanese garden "Shōyō-en" located in the temple precincts. Daiyūin features a color scheme of black and gold, giving the entire structure a stable and robust feeling. The 315 stone lanterns in the temple are quite spectacular and leave a deep impression. Nikkō-san Rinnō-ji, as one of the "shrines and temples of Nikkō," has been designated as a World Heritage Site.
