🗺️ Ohara Museum of Art大原美術館

The Ohara Museum of Art is located in a corner of the Kurashiki Bikan area and primarily focuses on the collection of modern and contemporary art. Established in 1930 by businessman Ohara Sozaburo, it is Japan's first private museum dedicated mainly to displaying Western art. The main building of the museum showcases numerous world-class Western masterpieces, including El Greco's "The Annunciation," also translated as "The Annunciation to the Virgin," Monet's "Water Lilies," as well as works by renowned artists such as Renoir and Paul Gauguin. Over the past 90 years since its establishment, the museum has collected more than 3,000 art treasures, covering Western modern art, Japanese modern and contemporary art, folk crafts, and classical art from East Asia, West Asia, and Egypt. In the courtyard of the Craft Oriental Museum, visitors can enjoy water lilies that have been transplanted from the Monet Garden in Giverny, France (flowering season is from late May to mid-October). The museum shop sells a variety of products, including original goods and framed reproductions of paintings.
