Details
The park located on the highlands of Fukushima is connected to Matsura City in Nagasaki Prefecture by a bridge. From the observation deck, one can overlook the many islands of Imari Bay and the blue sea. In spring, the park is famous for its fully bloomed cherry blossoms, making it a well-known cherry blossom viewing spot. The scenery during the cherry blossom season is extremely enchanting, attracting a large number of flower viewers from both inside and outside the prefecture.
The park is home to about 500 cherry trees, including Somei Yoshino and yamazakura. The contrast between the fully bloomed cherry blossoms and the azure sea is particularly beautiful. During the blooming season, nighttime illuminations are held, allowing visitors to experience the dreamlike beauty of the night cherry blossoms. Additionally, there are about 40 October cherry trees that bloom around October, providing the joy of cherry blossom viewing twice a year.
This area is designated as Genkai National Park, and besides the observation deck, there is an outdoor stage and a monument with a poem by the literary doctor Inoue Enryo, reminiscing about the scenes of Fukushima from years past. Walking trails have also been established, making it a great place to enjoy the diverse plants and scenery of the four seasons while taking a stroll.
