About Otaru Sankaku Market
You can buy and taste fresh seafood at the old market in front of Otaru Station.
Details
Otaru Triangle Market is a small market located between JR Otaru Station and National Route 5. It started in Showa 20 (1945) with just a few outdoor stalls and later transformed into a morning market, developing over more than 60 years. It is just a one-minute walk from Otaru Station, and most shops are open almost every day except for New Year's Day. The reasonable prices are well-received by customers, and the market is always bustling with locals and tourists from both domestic and international backgrounds. The triangular shape of the land and roofs is also the origin of the market's name.
On both sides of the gently sloping path, which is about 200 meters long, there are numerous fresh fish shops and seafood vendors, with lively calls from sellers echoing throughout. You can find fresh catches unique to Hokkaido, such as crabs, scallops, sea urchins, and salmon roe, along with a wide variety of dried goods and delicacies.
There are also six dining establishments where you can enjoy seafood bowls overflowing with fresh ingredients, as well as sashimi and set meals featuring boiled or grilled fish.
