📜 Content

The Otsuka Museum of Art originated from the well-known Japanese pharmaceutical company "Otsuka Pharmaceutical," which established the "Museum of Ceramic Art" in Naruto City, Tokushima Prefecture, to commemorate its 75th anniversary. The museum boasts the largest permanent exhibition space in Japan, covering an area of 29,412 square meters. With five floors from the basement level 3 to the second floor above ground, the total length of the galleries reaches 4 kilometers. The museum employs special techniques to reproduce over 1,000 Western masterpieces on ceramic plates, all in the same dimensions as the original works. These pieces include carefully selected ancient murals and modern paintings collected from over 190 museums across 26 countries. Unlike various art books and textbooks, the ceramic reproductions allow visitors to genuinely appreciate the artistic value of the original paintings, enabling them to experience the joy of visiting museums around the world even while in Japan. Because the ceramic reproductions can maintain their color and form for over 2,000 years, they make a significant contribution to the preservation and documentation of cultural heritage. The museum has also undertaken many innovative projects, such as the restoration of the hidden treasure "Guernica" and the "El Greco Altarpiece Screen" that was lost due to war. The Otsuka Museum of Art has received high praise from around the world for its exquisite techniques and creative concepts.
