About POLA Museum of Art
The Impressionist painting collection is the largest in Japan! An art museum that coexists with nature.
Details
Standing in the forest of Hakone, the museum bathed in green light. POLA's second-generation founder, Tsuneji Suzuki, opened it in 2002 to showcase the art collection he had spent nearly 40 years gathering. The museum displays a wide range of artworks, including Western paintings, Japanese Western-style paintings, prints, sculptures, and Eastern ceramics, with a collection of approximately 10,000 pieces that spans from modern Japanese ceramics to contemporary art.
POLA Museum is also one of Japan's largest collections of Impressionist paintings, featuring well-known works by famous artists such as Monet's "Water Lilies," Paul Cézanne, Vincent van Gogh, and Pablo Picasso. In addition to its permanent exhibitions, the museum frequently hosts special exhibitions and events.
In 2013, a "Forest Walking Path" was opened, allowing visitors to enjoy the Japanese beech and Hime-sawara trees. Visitors can stroll along the 1-kilometer path while listening to the chirping of birds and watching cute small animals.
Additionally, the museum's attached restaurant features large windows that let in plenty of light, creating an open and airy atmosphere. With a view of the mountains of Hakone, guests can enjoy dining on the outdoor terrace when the weather is nice, savoring delicious food at a leisurely pace while being surrounded by art and nature.
