About Printing Museum
Through historical materials and experiences, understand the history of printing and the museums of today.
Details
The Japanese printing giant "Toppan Printing Co., Ltd." established the "Printing Museum" in 2000 as part of its 100th anniversary commemorative project. It is a facility that allows visitors to experience printing culture more closely through various exhibitions and hands-on experiences.
The permanent exhibition features the "Million Taro Dori," considered the oldest existing printed material in the world, along with collections of movable type, machines, and other related artifacts. It not only introduces the development and history of printing technology in Japan and globally but also further explains its relationship with society and culture, making it an exhibition of historical significance. Additionally, the museum regularly hosts a variety of themed exhibitions that deeply explore printing culture.
In the "Printing Workshop," machines and materials related to letterpress printing technology established in the 15th century are displayed. The museum also offers guided tours and letterpress printing experiences, dedicated to preserving and passing down the gradually fading letterpress printing techniques. The "VR Theater," which features immersive video programs, is also noteworthy (it is only available on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays).
