📖 Details
Mount Ōmine is revered as the sacred peak and the origin of the Shugendō practice, first opened up by the ascetic monk En no Gyōja. The mountain path from Yoshinoyama through Mount Ōmine to Kumano, known as the "Ōmine Okugake Trail," is registered as part of the "Kii Mountain Range Sacred Sites Pilgrimage Route," a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Located at the midway point of Mount Ōmine, at an elevation of about 820 meters, is the Dōgawa Onsen area, which is celebrated as a summer retreat due to its cool climate and is nicknamed "Kansai's Karuizawa." The retro atmosphere of the Showa era is abundant in this hot spring town, which features a street lined with ryokans, guesthouses, souvenir shops, and dining establishments.
In the central part of the Dōgawa Onsen ryokan street, there is a café called "Jun Kissa Luna," renowned for its coffee made from the "Gorogoro Water," a spring selected as one of Japan's "Top 100 Famous Waters," located near the trailhead of Mount Ōmine. The coffee brewed with this famous water is known for its mild and rich flavor, and many fans claim that their eyes were opened to the world of coffee after tasting a cup here.
The café also sells many original T-shirts and miscellaneous goods that can only be found locally, making it a treasure trove for enthusiasts of unique items and returning customers.
