About Ruizen Sake Brewery
Inheriting the traditional taste of the Ryukyu Kingdom for over 130 years.
Details
During the Ryukyu Kingdom era, in order to uphold tradition and quality, Awamori could only be produced in three regions known as "Shuri Sanka," under strict national management. Ruisen Shuzo is one of the "Shuri Sanka" distilleries, located in Sakiyama Town, and has been preserving traditional flavors since the 20th year of the Meiji era (1887), making it a long-established sake brewery.
The name Ruisen comes from the clear spring that flows beside the Ruisen Gate of Shuri Castle. The Awamori, passed down through generations and carefully brewed using ancient brewing techniques, has received high praise in domestic and international liquor competitions.
Their signature Awamori (distilled spirit) "Oosake" is a miraculous product that successfully fermented using black koji mold that was used before the war. In addition, there are also quite popular aged spirits like "OMORO," as well as various liqueurs made from Okinawa's specialty products.
They also hold factory tours, offering free tastings of aged spirits and liqueurs, allowing first-time Awamori drinkers to easily experience the charm of Awamori.
Highlights
Founded in the 20th year of the Meiji era (1887), this long-established sake brewery miraculously discovered the black koji mold used before the war and successfully fermented it to create the renowned sake "Oshu." A factory tour where you can taste aged sake is not to be missed.
