Ryogoku Kokugikan is the Tokyo venue for Japanese sumo, hosting three tournaments each year and is considered the sacred site of "sumo." The main entrance of Ryogoku Kokugikan features paintings depicting early sumo matches and champion trophies. Additionally, during the Tokyo Grand Sumo tournaments, life-sized cutouts of wrestlers are displayed, becoming popular photo spots. Enjoying the famous rikishi bento sold at the venue while watching sumo matches is the most classic way to experience the event.
Inside the hall, there is also the "Sumo Museum," which showcases valuable materials and can be visited even when no sumo matches are taking place. Aside from sumo, Ryogoku Kokugikan is frequently used for various events, including professional wrestling.
Highlights
Enjoying the famous リキシ bentō while watching a sumo wrestling match is the classic way to experience the event. During the Grand Sumo Tournament, life-sized cutouts of rikishi (力士) are placed around, becoming a popular photo spot. The attached shop offers various sumo-related merchandise.
