Ryukyu Village is located in Onna Village and is a theme park that recreates the appearance of ancient Ryukyu Kingdom villages. The park features traditional houses relocated from various parts of Okinawa and hosts a variety of experiences, including performances of folk music.
There are plenty of activities to engage with Okinawan culture, such as painting Shisa (guardian lion-dogs), making Okinawan glass kaleidoscopes, creating coral picture frames, and trying on Ryukyu clothing. There are also trendy activities like real treasure hunts and escape room games.
Here, you can see water buffalo pulling a device called a "sugar cane cart," which demonstrates the traditional sugar-making process of extracting juice from sugarcane. The EISA performances, held four times a day, are also quite spectacular. Donโt miss the chance to grab a handmade Okinawan-style crepe called POPO or 100% sugarcane juice from the shop while you stroll around.
After enjoying the rich recreational activities, you can shop for Ryukyu pottery (Yaki-ki Muku) made by artisans in the workshop, or consider purchasing Awamori directly from the "Sakimoto Brewery" located within the park as a souvenir, which is highly recommended.
