About Saitama Arashiyama Valley

Since ancient times, there has been a beautiful reputation for "Musashi no Kuni Arashiyama" as a famous spot for autumn leaves.

Details

The Arashiyama Valley, famous for its autumn foliage, offers beautiful scenery of valley rocks, clear streams, and lush trees surrounding the area. When Japan's first forestry scholar, Dr. 本多静六 (Hondo Seiroku), visited this place, he was moved by the beauty of the landscape and referred to it in his writings as "武藏国之嵐山" (Musashi no Kuni no Arashiyama), meaning it could rival Kyoto's Arashiyama. This is also how the name of Arashiyama Town originated. The most exciting highlight is the walking path between the valley's observation deck and the monument of the famous Japanese poet 与謝野晶子 (Yosano Akiko). Especially in autumn, the mountain trails transform into a tunnel of red leaves, allowing visitors to stroll while listening to the soothing sounds of the flowing stream, which is truly healing for the mind and body. Additionally, there is a "冠水橋" (Kansui Bridge) where you can enjoy the reflection of the vibrant maple leaves on the water's surface. While the Arashiyama Valley is renowned for its autumn foliage, it also boasts beautiful scenery in spring and summer! Walking through the valley surrounded by fresh greenery while listening to the chirping of birds and the sound of flowing water is refreshing. Furthermore, in the summer, the lower area of the valley features the "嵐山溪谷BBQ場" (Arashiyama Valley BBQ Area), where you can enjoy BBQ after hiking and playing in the water with family and friends. It is also conveniently accessible from central Tokyo, making it a great recommendation for those wanting to get close to nature.

Highlights

Enjoy stunning autumn foliage comparable to that of Kyoto's Arashiyama. There are no shops nearby, so it's recommended to bring your own food and drinks. It's advisable to wear comfortable walking shoes and clothing. Not only can you enjoy the autumn leaves, but there are also beautiful sights to see in spring and summer. Transportation from Tokyo is very convenient.
