🗺️ Sendai Castle Ruins (Aoba Castle)仙台城跡（青葉城）

Sendai Castle was ordered to be built by Date Masamune, the first lord of the Sendai domain, and is also known as "Aoba Castle." It served as the center of domain administration for 270 years. After the Meiji era, the castle site was used for military purposes, and many buildings were demolished. The remaining structures, such as the Otemon gate, were almost completely destroyed during the Sendai air raids. Today, the area has been developed into a park, where remnants of stone walls can still be seen, along with the reconstructed Otemon side turret and the earthen walls on the north side of Otemon. The park features the iconic "Statue of Date Masamune on Horseback," which is illuminated at night. The surrounding area is elevated, providing a panoramic view of Sendai, known as the "City of Trees." Next to the park is the Aoba Castle Information Center, which allows visitors to learn more about the history of Sendai Castle through actual materials, 3D models, and CG restoration images of the castle. The center also sells goshuin (temple seals) related to Sendai Castle. Additionally, visitors can use VR equipment to experience the visual representation of Sendai Castle through "Sendai Castle VR GO."

It is recommended to take commemorative photos in front of the equestrian statue of Date Masamune. Inside the museum, you can learn about the history of Sendai Castle. There is also content that utilizes the latest VR equipment.
