The Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall is a museum dedicated to the Chinese revolutionary, politician, and thinker Sun Yat-sen. Inside the museum, there are precious historical materials on display, including calligraphy written by Mr. Sun himself. The building was originally the villa of Mr. Wu Jintang, a Chinese businessman active in Kobe at the time and a follower of Sun Yat-sen. The museum is the oldest existing wooden frame concrete structure in Japan and has been designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. This octagonal hall, symbolized by its three-story structure, features Western architecture set against the backdrop of the Akashi Kaikyō Bridge, making for a stunning appearance. The luxurious and elegant interior decorations and ceilings are also highlights worth appreciating. Through the exhibits, visitors can learn about the historical connections between Japan and Sun Yat-sen, as well as between Kobe and Sun Yat-sen, and gain insights into Mr. Wu Jintang's life and the changes of the Ichi-jo Pavilion, among other related historical materials. The explanations of the exhibits are available in Japanese, English, and Simplified Chinese, so even those who do not understand Japanese will have no problem.
