📖 Details
The Sunamachi Ginza Shopping Street was named after the famous Ginza shopping district in Japan in 1932. It is classified as one of the "Three Great Ginza Shopping Streets," alongside Togoshi Ginza and Jujo Ginza. The shopping street stretches approximately 670 meters and is lined with around 130 unique shops on either side of the narrow street. It offers a wide range of establishments, from clinics and photo studios to fresh food stores and delicatessens, as well as daycare centers.
The most appealing feature of the shopping street is the food stalls during festival events. Wandering between the food stalls while eating is the greatest joy for visitors. A variety of snacks such as grilled chicken skewers, oden, shumai, croquettes, and fruits allow for a delightful culinary experience all at once. Everything retains the nostalgic atmosphere of the Showa era. The staff at each stall greet passing visitors enthusiastically, making even first-time visitors feel as if they are meeting old friends with warm conversations. The cheerful atmosphere and deep sense of human connection create a charming and inviting space.
On the 10th of every month, the street holds a "Bargain Market" event with significant discounts on products. Additionally, various festival activities, such as the "Tanabata Festival" in August, are organized throughout the year. Sunamachi Ginza Shopping Street is known as the "Shopping Street of Human Connection" and a "Must-Visit Shopping Street," and it is a place where one can fully experience the charm of old Tokyo.
