🗺️ Suwashima Artist Village (Former Suwashima Junior High School)粟島芸術家村（旧粟島中学校）

Since 2010, the "Awashima Artist Village" training project has been launched in Mitoyo City, Kagawa Prefecture, using Awashima as a stage to provide accommodation and a creative base for young artists. Starting in 2013, the Awashima Artist Village has served as accommodation, a creative base, and a venue for the Setouchi International Art Festival, showcasing the works of various artists. Currently, it regularly exhibits works from the 2019 Setouchi International Art Festival, with a piece titled "Using Cave Paintings as Language to Tell the Story of Whales Reborn as Oxygen." This artwork was collaboratively created by Japanese artist Maki Okajima, the Indian artist Mayur Vayeda, who is an inheritor of the Warli tribal wall paintings, and the residents of Awashima. During the visit, enthusiastic islanders actively serve as guides (free of charge), allowing visitors to learn about the little anecdotes that occurred during the creation of these artworks through conversation, providing a deeper understanding of the intrinsic charm of the pieces.

Suwashima Artist Village is a creative base that has provided accommodation for young artists since 2010. Utilizing the abandoned old school building of Suwashima Middle School from 2014, it offers a space for young artists to create and learn. Regular exhibitions showcase artworks collaboratively created by artists and local residents. The locals enthusiastically share anecdotes from the production process with visiting tourists.
