About Takao Monkey Park and Wildflower Garden
Japanese macaques living in groups find healing and relaxation among 300 species of wild grasses.
Details
The "Takaosan Monkey Park and Wildflower Garden" is located on the slopes of Mount Takao, surrounded by nature. The monkey park is home to about 90 Japanese macaques, led by a dominant male, forming a social structure of their own. Visitors can observe the monkeys grooming each other up close, huddling together for warmth in cold weather, and their lively behavior. The explanations provided by the caretakers are very popular among tourists. The adorable baby monkeys born from early April to early August each year are also a must-see.
In the Wildflower Garden adjacent to the monkey park, visitors can enjoy a variety of wild grasses and flowers throughout the four seasons across an area of 2,800 square meters. Among the approximately 300 species of wild grasses, the focus is on native mountain plants such as "Takaosan Violet," along with several rare species that are endangered. In addition to walking paths, the garden features birdwatching huts, allowing visitors to observe wild birds gathering in the forest, making it a great place to connect with the rich nature of Mount Takao.
