🍜 Tea House HISHI I

📝 Introduction

In the warehouse, which is greatly favored by scholars and literati, you can enjoy a retro atmosphere that features both Japanese and Western styles.

📖 Details

This warehouse, which was converted into a pawn shop in the 38th year of the Meiji era (1905), is now preserved as "Tea House HISHII." It survived the Great Hakodate Fire in the 9th year of the Showa era (1934), and its remaining black exterior is quite distinctive. This place is beloved by many poets, songwriters, and literary figures, and it has connections to Setsuko, the wife of Takumaki Ishikawa, who lived in Hakodate. Visitors can spend some time here reminiscing about the past. The left side of the entrance currently serves as a tea house, with the first floor featuring a Western classical style, equipped with a bar and four sets of tables and chairs. On the other end, the loft displays exquisite Japanese antiques, with the original beams of the pawn shop left exposed, creating a sturdy atmosphere. It’s delightful to choose a seat based on your mood. The menu primarily features coffee, but also offers tea and juice. Additionally, there are light meals such as sandwiches and toast, as well as Japanese fresh fruit desserts and sundaes.
