📝 Introduction

The fish market street along the coast is known as "Ami Yokoten of Fresh Fish."

📖 Details

Teradomari Fish Market Street is located along National Route 402 on the Sea of Japan coast in Niigata Prefecture, featuring 11 large fresh fish shops lined up together. Fresh catches from the Sea of Japan and seafood from all over the region converge here. The market offers extremely fresh fish and a rich variety of seafood, always bustling with customers driving from the metropolitan area and Niigata city to shop. The most famous aspect of Teradomari Market is the "Hama-yaki," which involves grilling seasonal fresh fish, squid, and scallops on skewers over charcoal. Enjoying Hama-yaki seafood while being caressed by the sea breeze is a unique pleasure that can only be experienced here. Teradomari is not only a fishing port but also a post town on the Hokuriku Road during the Edo period, thriving as a hub connecting the western shipping routes, Honshu, and Sado Island. The area is home to so many shrines and temples that it is often referred to as "Kamakura of the North" or "Kamakura of the Sea of Japan," making it a town rich in history.
